Guide
What to wear for a massage
The short answer: whatever you’re comfortable in. You undress only as far as you want, and your therapist works around the rest.
By treatment
- Back, neck and shoulders: most people take off their top. You stay covered by a towel everywhere else.
- Legs and feet: shorts work well if you’d rather keep something on.
- Oil-based massage (Swedish, deep tissue, aromatherapy): wear underwear you don’t mind getting a little oil on.
- Reflexology: stay fully clothed; just shoes and socks off.
Before your therapist arrives
- Change into something loose, like a robe or comfortable clothes.
- Take off jewelry that might get in the way. Rings and small studs can usually stay on.
- Tie long hair back.
- Leave somewhere to put your clothes.
